Abstract

The effect of vanadium alloying of austenitic high-manganese steel 110G13L on the formation of the structure and quality of castings, metal density, state of non-metallic inclusions and mechanical properties was investigated. The effect of heat treatment of castings on the mechanical properties of high-manganese steel with vanadium is described, taking into account the features and duration of the quenching treatment. It was established that in the steel, in addition to the main carbide and phosphide phases, additional phases enriched with vanadium are formed. The analysis showed that 70-80% of vanadium is in solid solution and only 7-8% in carbides, which causes the strengthening of austenite. Vanadium alloying contributed to grain refinement due to the formation of nitrides and carbonitrides, which served as grain nuclei and formed a fine-grained structure of austenite. Due to this, the intercrystalline voids decreased and the density of the steel increased. The effect of vanadium alloying on the index of contamination of high-manganese steel with non-metallic inclusions (oxysulfides, silicates, nitrides, carbonitrides, oxides, spinel) was studied. It was established that to improve the mechanical properties, the holding time at a temperature of 1050ºС should be increased by 25-30%, which contributes to the grinding of vanadium carbides. Vanadium alloying and the optimal heat treatment regime of castings allowed to significantly increase the strength, ductility and impact toughness of steel. At a vanadium content of 0.15-0.30%, the highest mechanical characteristics of castings were obtained, while the increase in the tensile strength, impact toughness, relative elongation and narrowing was 5%, 70%, and 45-50%, respectively. Further increase in the amount of vanadium led to a deterioration in mechanical properties. Vanadium alloying also increased the mechanical characteristics of high-manganese steel with a high phosphorus content (up to 0.12%) due to the formation of finely dispersed inclusions of vanadium carbonitrides, which were additional crystallization centers and crushed the austenite grain. The length of the grain boundaries increased and the inclusions of the phosphide eutectic were distributed over a longer length, due to which the grain boundaries were cleaned, which contributed to an increase in the strength and energy intensity of the fracture of the castings.
