Abstract

In today’s world, digitalization penetrates production technologies, in particular, for foundry production, the digital intellectualization of equipment and processes is called “Foundry 4.0”. The paper examines the method of casting cast iron according to patterns that are gasified (Lost Foam Casting, LFC) and pre-made by a combined method. The nozzle patterns were made of expanded polystyrene (EPS), partially covered with rings that were printed on a 3D printer from four different materials. The analysis of the obtained castings showed their sufficiently high quality, individual castings had only minor surface defects, which are eliminated by surface treatment or refinement of the LFC process. The experiment was conducted under the guidance of prof. O.Y. Shinskyi with a successful result, which showed the prospects for the use of combined patterns with PPS and printed plastic elements for LFC. It was experimentally found that plastic elements can be used to perform a certain configuration of casting or its parts with a complex profile. In addition, printed pattern elements, which are made of plastic containing up to 30% metal, can be used to locally alloy or modify the casting metal. Measures for the removal of plastic degradation products from the foundry cavity during casting using combined patterns using LFC technology are proposed. Rapid automated 3D production of patterns (even of complex or one-off designs by individual order) and metal castings based on them will increasingly correspond to the new terms “connected digitalization”, “production as a service” and “service on demand”.
